AS the world commemorates World Aids month, leading information and computer technology companies have affirmed their fight against the scourge.
Among these is social networking platform MXit, which has teamed up with the South African National AIDS Council to launch a campaign that will simultaneously raise HIV/AIDS awareness amongst a key target group, which are the youth.
Chief executive officer, Herman Heunis, said, “The MXit brand stands for the evolution of technology and communication and we constantly try to push the envelope with what is possible using this platform. MXit is more than just games and chat – we support an entire lifestyle – and see ourselves very much in this role.”
MXit has a subscriber base of 10-million, mostly made up of 16- to 25-year-old South Africans, which represents a huge segment of the South African population.
The IQ Business Group also said it had mobilized its process skills to enable the efficient and cost-effective roll-out of an HIV/Aids e-health system to 23 community-based organisations (CBOs) around South Africa.
The initiative is a cellphone-based data capture solution for organisations involved in HIV training, education and support.
“This is the largest single project we have ever been involved in and frankly, we didn’t know where to start. That’s when we approached IQ for assistance,” said Cell-Life general manager Peter Benjamin.
Cell-Life developed the initiative to fight the scourge.
