Omnia signs multi-million rand dead with QAD

QAD, a global provider of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain software, today cemented its position within the local market with the signing of a multi-million Rand ERP deal with JSE-listed diversified and specialised chemical services company Omnia.

Omnia, which provides solutions to customers in the chemicals, mining and agriculture markets, selected QAD as its preferred ERP solution provider for the company’s global operations. With over 2000 employees in 16 countries, Omnia evaluated various software vendors to identify a partner that would support its Quantum Initiative; the company’s group-wide strategic initiative aimed at improving customer service, driving operational excellence particularly in supply chain and lowering the cost of doing business.

As part of the Quantum Initiative, Omnia rigorously reviewed its business operations and practices to identify the requirements its chosen ERP solution provider had to meet. QAD was one of four short-listed vendors invited to tender for Omnia’s business.

“QAD was able to provide us with a cost-effective solution that met all our business requirements, whilst at the same time supporting the group’s strategic initiative to do business more effectively and efficiently,” said Rod Humphris, Managing Director, Omnia.

To achieve the objectives outlined in its Quantum Initiative, Omnia will deploy QAD as its enterprise business, advanced planning and information system.

“We wanted to partner with a company that listens and responds to its customers’ requirements. QAD satisfied that requirement; demonstrating that it has the enterprise solutions, expertise and capabilities to address the diverse needs of a multinational company operating in a highly complex, volatile and fast changing market,” added Humphris.

“Having been selected by Omnia as their chosen partner to support future growth bears testimony to the fact that QAD is able to deliver flexible solutions that meet more than just operational demands. We partner with our customers to help them drive long-term business success,” said Andre van Vuuren, sales manager, QAD South Africa.

Improved features and anticipated benefits of the new ERP system include integrated planning and event management tools; a centralised information system, which results in less paperwork for employees as well as the ability to access richer, more intelligent information that improves and expedites employees’ decision-making capabilities.

Currently in the configuration and test phase, Omnia plans to go live with its first division by the first quarter of 2009, and anticipates that the group-wide implementation will be complete by mid 2010.
