Leading global telecommunications enabler Nokia Siemens Networks has set its sights to reinforcing its vision of 5 billion people connected by 2015, through showcasing its world-class end-to-end solutions and products through live demonstrations and presentations at AfricaCom 2008 which begins in Cape Town on November 18, 2008.
At the AfricaCom conference, Nokia Siemens Networks is talking about some of its solutions designed to make a difference in Africa and drive economic growth like Village Connection.
Village Connection has been designed, especially for rural communities, to overcome the barriers that prevent mobile operators addressing the needs of huge constituencies of users. Village Connection effectively brings down the cost of mobile communications for the operator making it affordable for mobile users with low spending power.
Visitors to the Nokia Siemens Networks Stand in Hall 2 at the Cape Town Convention Centre can witness state-of-the-art demonstrations of the company’s latest solutions, including
its new age technological products like WiMax and mobile hauling. Demonstrations will also be given on the ‘next big step’ in mobile network evolution, which is the 3rd Generation Partnership Program – Long Term Evolution (3GPP LTE) and the Internet High Speed Packet Access (I-HSPA).
Nokia Siemens Networks Head of Southern Africa Sub-Region, Linda Khumalo, said “Our unrivalled insight into user behaviour and our deep, holistic understanding of service provider business opportunities and challenge, including evolution of their business models, makes Nokia Siemens Networks end to end solutions for superior than what is currently available in the market.”
Khumalo explained that in addition to the company’s global vision and other passion of connecting the next few billion, Nokia Siemens Networks would do so in the most responsible, and sustainable manner, including going green.
“The telecommunications industry can make a significant contribution towards protecting the environment, and Nokia Siemens Networks wants to take the lead and set the standard for others to follow. Nokia Siemens Networks have put in place stringent processes to ensure that it set clear goals, objectives and strategies to minimize its impact on the environment,” said Khumalo.
Nokia Siemens Networks has programmes such as Design for Environment (DfE) which ensures that environmental efficiency is taken into account from the early stages of product design. In addition to the flagship energy-efficient Flexi base station that the company had gone on to introduce its energy efficiency solution, which through optimized network planning, minimizing the use of air-conditioning, software optimization and latest base station technology can reduce energy use of a base station site up to 70%.
