Orascom Telecom and Nokia have announced a cooperation to make Nokia’s mobile content platform, Ovi available to Orascom Telecom customers in its countries of operation. Orascom Telecom operates GSM networks in Algeria (Djezzy), Pakistan (Mobilink), Egypt (Mobinil), Tunisia (Tunisiana), Bangladesh (Banglalink) and Zimbabwe (Telecel Zimbabwe).
Orascom Telecom is also about to launch a network in North Korea – whether the agreement includes selling mobile content into that country was not clarified.
As part of the collaboration, Nokia devices will provide access to both companies’ selected services, such as Nokia Maps, Nokia N-Gage and music, with more services to follow. Nokia and Orascom Telecom will further enhance the collaboration on mobile Internet services.
Naguib Sawiris, Chairman and CEO of Orascom Telecom said that “Orascom Telecom has consistently proved its ability to successfully roll out leading-edge mobile services. Today, we are excited to announce this agreement with Nokia, which will allow us to bring to the market innovative services that will truly improve the mobile experience of our customers.”
“We are pleased to announce this cooperation with Orascom Telecom and strongly believe that it will further pave the way in integrating devices and services together. This collaboration is an important step in creating Internet services that are easy to use, as we are constantly looking for new ways to offer consumers a great variety of experiences that they can choose from. With Nokia N-Gage for example, consumers can easily find, try and buy the best in mobile games with a range of innovative, made-for-mobile titles”, says Timo Ihamuotila, Executive Vice President, Sales, Nokia.
