Zain removes roaming charges for Nigerians as S/Arabia joins One Network

zain_nigeria_ceo.jpgNigerians on the Zain network can now conveniently make use of their phones while in Saudi Arabia without worrying about the huge burden of paying roaming charges, as the company’s network in the Middle East country has joined the leading mobile operator’s One Network.

The oil rick country which strategically connects Africa with the Middle East recently joined Zain Nigeria on the One Network service, the world’s first borderless telecom network which eliminates the need for roaming charges, when Zain commissioned service.

‘One Network’ is a globally acclaimed innovative borderless mobile service that offers over 45 million Zain customers in 16 countries favourable rates and roaming free charges for cross-border communications.

The removal of roaming charges for customers on Zain Nigeria network while in Saudi Arabia will provide many Nigerians the opportunity to stay connected with their loved ones, business associates and friends, thus enhancing the trade, religious and social links between the two countries and their people.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, Zain Nigeria, Bayo Ligali, the extension of the ‘One Network’ service to Saudi Arabia will further enable the company to assist its numerous customers enjoy a wonderful world in line with Zain brand promise, adding that businessmen, corporate organisations, tourists, and those on religious visits will benefit immensely from the removal of roaming charges by the network.

“Extending our ‘One Network’ service to Saudi Arabia is an important milestone for our customers in Nigeria and it clearly strengthens our strong desire to give our customers admirable cellular experience and become one of the very top telecom brands in the world. With the expansion, Zain is actualizing its commitment to offering Nigerians enhanced mobile telephone services and empowering people to keep in touch easily as well as promote cross border trade and enterprises,’’ Ligali said.

Zain Nigeria subscribers (both post paid and pre-paid customers) travelling to other Zain operations offering the ‘One Network’ service only have to switch on their phones to enjoy the service. All calls made will be charged using the local currency and rates of the visited Networks.

No special provisioning is required for the ‘One Network’ service as all subscribers are provisioned by default.

Zain subscribers on the One Network service can recharge airtime using either their Home Zain Network’s recharge vouchers or the Visited Zain Network’s recharge vouchers.

Zain’s ‘One Network’ service now covers 16 countries in Africa and Middle East including: Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Malawi, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Jordan, Bahrain, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Zain Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Saad Al Barrak believes that ‘One Network’ service is one of many attractions that will attract customers to Zain as the company set its eyes on top of the global telecom subscriber chart. According to him, the attractiveness of and continual expansion of the ‘One Network’ will play a key role in Zain attaining its year 2011 targets of attaining 150 million customers and being a top-ten global mobile operator.

“One Network’ product is expected to be the key engine for growth on the African continent and beyond. We aim to roll ‘One Network’ out over all of our operations progressively … we may expand the One Network concept beyond Zain entities and that is something we are looking at as we speak,” he said.

Zain ‘One Network’ service is aimed at providing a borderless mobile phone network across the Zain Group. It enables subscribers enjoy the pan African/Middle East community, allowing them move freely between the countries in which Zain operates, and be treated as ‘virtual’ local customers of the visited network in terms of pricing, while retaining their home network service functionality.
