Workgroup announces 16PB library with 10 050 slots

October 30, 2007 • Security

Local Spectra Logic distributor, Workgroup, has announced the eight-frame Spectra T950, an enterprise-class library that expands as agency data grows, up to 16.08 petabytes, compressed.

This is one of the few products on the market that large federal data centres can use to partition and integrate any combination of tape, BTL, and encryption, implementing the AE-256 algorithm and compression through its FIPS-compliant chip, says Martinus
Pretorius, Spectra Logic product manager at Workgroup.

The T950’s encryption key management suite operates within the library through a standard graphical interface, with no need for
additional packages to complete the key management solution.
Pretorius says that with today’s focus on ˜green, Spectra can say that the T950 uses an average of 65 percent less energy than most competing libraries, and he says that this energy efficient library helps agencies handle growing quantities of data while meeting the larger federal commitment to energy conservation, in keeping with the
DOE’s Federal Energy Management Program and related regulations.

The T950 offers high value with less time required to administer the library, less space required per gigabyte for the library and greater capacity to scale. It offers high flexibility as it allows agencies to manage both tape and mobile disks in a single library and it offers high storage density per square foot, with more than 16PB-compressed

The T950 offers agencies the ability to encrypt, compress and decrypt data using the strongest version of AES encryption, meeting demanding security requirements.
