Telecom Namibia suffering from outages

Namibia’s mobile operator Telecom Namibia has been battling to keep their operations running, as a weekend of interrupted services caused havoc in the northern part of the Southern African country.

Many service such as banks and ATM rely on information and telecommunication technology in order to remain operational, but most of these were inoperable, leaving many bank customers with no means to draw money. To make matters worse, there was a blackout of internet in several parts of the country.

As to the cause of the intermittent information and telecommunication, Telecom technicians conceded that they had no idea, merely stating that “they are trying to locate the problem”.

Early Wednesday morning (14 December) Telecom Namibia notified their customers that they will experience limited internet.

“Please take note that all broadband customers will experience slow internet due to a system failure in the south of Namibia. Technicians are on-site to repair the system a.s.a.p,” a message on their website said.
