According to a new report, Nintendo sales have slumped in the US, with sales of the Wii hitting an all-time low and the newly-released 3DS failing to make an impact since launch.
The report issued by market analysts Wedbush Securities, highlights that the Wii sold 30% less consoles than last year, hitting rock-bottom at 236,000 units in May.
On the other side of the spectrum, Microsoft’s Xbox360 moved up 39% to sell 270,000 units, while the PlayStation 3 managed 175,000.
As for the 3DS, no exact figures were made known, but the report did state that the “3DS hardware sales were well below our 180,000 unit estimate in its third month (down 50 per cent from its second month). We were disappointed to see the tie ratio for the 3DS continue to be weak at around 2:1, surely an all-time low for a new hardware launch.”
Analysts are hoping that the US holiday will boost sales of the handheld console and its related games, as Mario Kart, Super Mario 3DS, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Star Fox 64 3D and Kid Icarus are all expected to be released.
