Chinese smartphone manufacturer, TECNO has recently made its debut to the South African market with the Camon 12 Flagship Device. Launched in late 2019, the Camon 12 hit SA shores in March 2020 and is available for around R2 999 from online stores like loot.co.za and Takealot.co.za.
Thoughts on the TECNO Camon 12
The device is surprisingly solid and competent in hand – despite its mainly plastic exterior. In classic smartphone fashion, the Camon 12 is a rectangular slab complete with rounded corners and slim but accessible buttons along the right side. It’s fitted with an impressive fingerprint sensor and triple AI camera array on the back while the front sports a fantastic high-res selfie camera.
Overall, 7/10 for value for money – this smartphone is a sigh of relief for consumers who are looking for a quality device without breaking the bank.
TECNO Camon 12 Specifications
The 6.52 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen smartphone is powered by a Mediatek MT6762 Helio P22 Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. It runs on HiOS which is great if you’re looking to customise the device to your exact specifications – the only downside to this is that it supports a TON of advertisements (which aren’t exactly subtle).
The Camon 12 comes standard with 64GB of internal storage – that can be topped up thanks to the external MicroSD slot – and an impressive 4GB of RAM. The device has shown no sign of poor or slowed performance since it was unboxed – and neither has the battery which is another surprising feature.
The Camon 12 uses a Li-Po 4000 mAh battery that can withstand around 14 hours of moderate use between charges – the only drawback is that the device takes roughly 2 hours to charge completely.
A closer look at the Camon12 cameras reveals TECNO’s exceptional value for money. As mentioned, the rear sports a triple AI camera array which combines 16 MP, 8 MP, 2 MP depth sensor lenses. On the front, users will find a neatly positioned tear-drop-cut-out that houses the 16MP selfie camera.
When it comes to the device’s AI camera technology, users will have access to a huge library of filters and effects that can be used to enhance their images.
The device supports 4G LTE, WiFi and GPS capabilities.
