The Apple Music app is officially available on Samsung Smart TVs – models from 2018 through 2020 – starting today. The news – announced by both tech giants on Thursday, 23 April – marks the first time the Apple Music app has made an appearance on a smart TV platform, other than Apple TV set-top box.

According to The Verge, the app “appears to be similar to the Apple Music app on the Apple TV” which gives subscribers access to over 60 million ad-free songs, music videos and thousands of playlists curated by music experts.

This, however, isn’t the first time that Samsung and Apple have worked together to push typically iOS apps across Android platforms. In 2019, Samsung revealed that consumers could access iTunes movies and Apple TV Plus through the Apple TV app on its Smart TVs.

“Last year, we were the first TV manufacturer to offer the Apple TV app, and today, we are the first to offer Apple Music. Our partnership with Apple has been instrumental in bringing consumers an unparalleled lineup of different entertainment options, especially as they seek out more content choices from their Smart TVs,” says Salek Brodsky, VP of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development for Samsung Electronics.

“Our goal has always been to deliver the best entertainment experiences to consumers and as people spend more time at home, we are more committed to that mission than ever.”

Samsung says that owners of Smart TVs can “download Apple Music from the Samsung Smart TV App Store, sign in to an existing account with their Apple ID, or begin the subscription process right from their TV. Samsung Smart TV owners can try Apple Music free for 3 months with an individual, family or student subscription.”
