Safaricom has revamped it’s My Safaricom App for Android, reports TechWeez. The update (version 1.5.0.7) – which was pushed on Thursday, 12 March 2020 – includes minor features like a new splash screen and refreshed MPESA Global User Interface.
The newer splash screen simply includes Safaricom’s tagline whereas the MPESA Global User Interface now displays icons in a tabbed form as opposed to listed options.
This update makes viewing and using MPESA global services much simpler. On the old version, users needed to select the send list if they wanted to transfer money to a western union location, mobile number or bank account. But now, thanks to the new update, users can easily access each option in icon form.
Another small but significant change is that users now have access to an unbundled opt-out option marked in red and located at the bottom of the screen.
According to TechWeez, “MPESA Global was announced way back in late 2018 which opened up MPESA with integration with international financial services. It allows people to send and receive money from across the globe using money remittance services like Western Union and PayPal”.
“Safaricom is serious with this product to the point where last year, they decided to pump over KES 400 million for its expansion strategy that will see it launch in new markets.”
