Video game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) and video game developer Respawn Entertainment, announced the Apex Legends Pre-Season Invitational on Wednesday, 30 July.
This will be, according to the companies involved, “a large-scale e-sports tournament featuring the largest collection of competitive talent ever for an Apex Legends event.” The event will take place in Kraków, Poland, from 13 September to 15 September 2019, and will feature 80 teams comprised of 3 players each competing in a bracketed tournament with a total prize pool of $500,000.
“When we started the EA Competitive Gaming Division, we had [a] vision to Make Stars of All Our Players as we build an entertainment spectacle that captivates millions of players and spectators. Today we officially expand EA Competitive Gaming through the addition of Apex Legends, owner of one of the biggest game launches in history that continues to be powered today by a passionate global community. The Apex Legends Preseason Invitational is the key next step in our esports journey,” said Todd Sitrin, SVP and GM of the EA Competitive Gaming Division.
“Competition is in the DNA of Apex Legends and this competitive event will showcase the game at its highest-level. This Apex Legends Preseason Invitational advances our vision towards a robust competitive experience with the community at the centre. We continue to explore all the entertaining ways both players and spectators can experience Apex Legends and look forward to bringing this event to life,” said Chad Grenier, Design Director.
Each team will begin the double-elimination tournament in the winners’ bracket. A team’s performance in each round will determine whether they will advance in the winners’ bracket, drop into the losers’ bracket or completely eliminated from the entire tournament. This process will continue until the last 20 teams are left to compete for the title and the grand prize.
The event is invite-only, and teams can apply for an invite into the Apex Legends Pre-Season Invitational by sending an email to ApexLegendsPreseason@ea.com, including their Origin ID and associated e-mail address.
