The Acer Spin 5 is a solid convertible with a screen that rotates 360-degrees on the back. Two strong hinges bind the screen to the main-body which also enables the Spin 5 to rotate. It packs a stylus pen that works decently for taking notes and casual drawing.
The device is thin, light and comfortable to carry around while producing daily tasks is effortless.
The Spin 5 features Intel’s latest 8th gen processors which make for extended battery life and good graphics performance.
The review unit provided was a Core i5 with 8 GB memory and a 256 GB SSD. It is classy and modern, its metal build is sleek and feels solid.
Acer outdid itself with the Spin 5, it is solidly built, with minimal flex in the lid and keyboard deck. For its price range, the machine brings such robust build quality. The hinge is smooth and holds the display in place through the 2-in-1s laptop, display, tent, and tablet modes.
The Spin 5 comes equipped with a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 or 166PPI) display this is perfect for catching up on Netflix after a long day at work. Acer doesn’t offer a 4K UHD display option, this is not a big deal though because the laptop still offers better-than-average colour gamut support. The display on the device is pleasant, perfect for working indoors and outdoors. Volume was great.
The keyboard was comfortable to type on and offers a decent feel. The included touchpad beneath the spacebar in the middle of the laptop. It was also good at delivering decent accuracy and lots of options to customise the swipes and clicks. The included fingerprint reader is integrated into the touchpad. It was small but worked well with Windows Hello.
The touch response was excellent especially when used in tablet mode and the stylus accuracy was also very good for more delicate work.
The Spin 5 features a USB-C 3.1 port with data, power, and display support, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and one USB-A 2.0 port for solid legacy support. Then, there’s an Ethernet port – an unusual addition in this form factor — for easy access to gigabit ethernet, a full-size HDMI port, and an SD card reader.
With a fully charged battery, the Spin 5 can last a full workday if you’re running the usual productivity tasks. The laptop can give you 7 hours of regular use such as general web browsing, catching up on email, and even watching a movie. The laptop impressively powers up quickly, even if the battery just died. In general the battery life was satisfyingly long.

The Acer Spin 5 is a decent midrange 2-in-1 convertible that delivers on every task you throw at it. The device is well-built with an up-to-date processor and solid connectivity. The laptop’s hinges were sturdy and held position firmly. Audio quality suffers at maximum volume with shrill highs, but lowering the volume helps avoid the distortion. For its price range, the device has lots to offer. Featuring the stylus, a useful add-on, the device is a must have for those who are looking for a well-priced classy machine.
