On Monday 30 October 2017, thousands of protesters took to the streets across South Africa to draw attention to farm murders.

The day of protest was dubbed Black Monday and South Africans were urged to wear black to show their solidarity.

The protest, however, took a negative turn as some farmers joined the protests with old South African flags in hand. These images were circulated across various social media platforms and led to an inevitable backlash from fellow South Africans on social media.
