Asus ,ROG Kenya hosted a gaming tournament at Sarit Center this weekend.

A gaming event sponsored by ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG), a brand of ASUS, took place this past weekend in Kenya. The gaming PC manufacturer hosted the tournament that saw eight teams of  gaming enthusiasts competing for a grand prize of Kshs. 100 000.

Gamers always love a challenge, and this past weekend, it was more than a challenge. It was the largest PC gaming tournament in Kenya, and gamers did not disappoint. The gaming tournament included on-location commentating with a livestream of the event on the ASUS ROG Kenya Facebook page.

Here are some of the event highlights:

  • There were a total of 8 teams, each with 4 players with 32 players overall, competing for the ultimate prize of Kshs. 100,000.
  • The Winner team, named APEX, walked away with Kshs. 100,000, while the second, third, and fourth won Kshs. 50,000, Kshs. 30,000, and Kshs. 20,000 respectively.
  • The tournament included winning various levels from the popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 military game.
  • Eyes were glued to the screens as both player and observer watched the competition unfolded. In the end however, APEX came through and won the tournament.

The computer gaming and eSports industry is a 25B-dollar industry, which means it has surpassed both the movie and the music industry. This is the first gaming tournament of this magnitude in Kenya similar to what is found in Western countries that have very established gaming communities. It is also proof that the video gaming community in Kenya is huge and active.

According to ASUS, this was just the beginning of the gaming revolution in Kenya and we can expect to see more in future. According to the company representatives, the next event will have a total of 20 teams competing for the ultimate prize.

ASUS took the opportunity to launch their new gaming laptop, ASUS GL753, now available for pre-orders from Text Book Centres.

The company hopes to continue working with the local gaming community to grow the ASUS ROG Kenya eSports gaming brand. ASUS also hopes the new machines unveiled will help grow the enthusiastic local PC gaming community that came out on Saturday to show support to the event.
