Telkom and Business Connexion (BCX) have revealed the official appointment of Isaac Mophatlane as the Chief Executive Officer of the newly integrated Telkom Business Connexion. Mr. Mophatlane will be responsible for both Business Connexion and Telkom Business.
This announcement comes on the heels of the finalisation of the merger between Telkom and BCX, which occurred in 2015. The naming of the new CEO is the next step in the full integration process, anticipated to be completed within the next 12 months. Once completed, the fully integrated Telkom Business Connexion will become the leading provider of information and communications technology (ICT) solutions in South Africa.
Isaac Mophatlane has been Group Chief Executive Officer of BCX since August 2014. Together with his late brother, Benjamin, he co-founded BCX (then known as Business Connection), a computer reseller focused on government and parastatals. Through a series of successful business decisions and acquisitions, BCX grew to become a top provider of ICT throughout Africa.
“I’m thrilled to be taking on this new position,” said Isaac Mophatlane, CEO of Telkom Business Connexion. “When my late brother and I started our own IT company nearly 20 years ago, we could only dream that it would reach the level of success we currently enjoy. I’m honoured to be at the helm of the newly formed Telkom Business Connexion, and I look forward to working with my partners to grow the success of this business.”
“In the coming weeks and months, Isaac will be driving the full integration of Telkom Business Connexion and we are proud to have such an astute business leader fulfilling this role,” said Sipho Maseko, group CEO of Telkom. “Telkom Business Connexion is uniquely equipped to strengthen Telkom’s core offering, allowing us to offer solutions beyond connectivity and to provide true, end-to-end services to our customers.”
Mophatlane also reiterated the rationale for the merger, saying “Telkom is currently the country leader in managed network services, servicing customers in medium enterprises, large corporates and the government. BCX is leading the IT services sector in South Africa, and is known for innovating to best serve the enterprise sector. The combination of the two means we can provide enhanced solutions for our customers across the value chain.”
The merger between Telkom and BCX is designed to grow the value propositions for both companies in the South African market. The marriage of telecommunications technology with ICT offers both companies the chance to provide true end-to-end solutions for their customers, giving them the leg up as they compete in the new era of digitalisation.
