A new mobile application is being launched by the Tunisia government, which will allow citizens to report environmental abuses and violations. The mobile app comes as the government has launched a series of environmental initiatives aimed at educating and making people aware of the importance of the environment surrounding human life.
The application, Zoomi, will enable users to report misconduct and report it to the authorities for further action.
Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Nejib Derouiche stated that the application was launched by Ooredoo.
“It allows users to report any environmental violations by sending a photo with a comment to the Ministry of the Environment and the local municipality,” he said.
Derouiche said the program is: “one of the five priorities of his department for the first 100 days in office.”
The application is free and is available in Arabic and French. With Tunisia’s overall mobile infrastructure is among the top in North Africa, the use of telecommunications as a means of cracking down on the environmental abuse that takes place is a first for the country.
The minister added that he hoped it would lead to a cleaner society where people take responsibility for their actions.
