South African concert promoter Big Concerts revealed on micro-blogging site Twitter that they will be making a big announcement on Monday, but it seems as if some eager fans have beaten the company to the punch.
After a series of tweets about the possible announcement, a number of fans launched their own investigation into what the possible announcement could be, and came to one conclusion – Lady Gaga will be playing in South African in February 2014.
On the blog Born This Way Music, a leaked document surfaced with the all the dates for Gaga’s tour schedule, which spans deep into 2014. While the Australian portion of the tour dates has been confirmed, the rest of the schedule hasn’t. But South African radio station 5FM further fuelled speculation by playing a teaser intro on Friday morning, with what could be Lady Gaga’s voice at the end.
#LadyGaga and #BigAnnoucement was both trending topics on Twitter on Friday afternoon. “If @bigconcerts brings Lady Gaga over they must tell her to bring that meat dress of her’s! Must have a braai! #letshope,” wrote Straatligkinders singer Bouwer Bosch.
“Here it is @ladygaga will be in CT on 1&2 Feb 2012 and Jozi on 7 Feb 2014 #bigannouncement BUSTED!,” shared Donovan White. Taryn Ward was a little sceptical about the rumours. “It better be Lady Gaga or it means twitter is full of speculative liars,” she said.
A parody Twitter account for South Africa President Jacob Zuma also chimed in about the singer. “I Hope it’s Lady Gaga, she must return my Warrior outfit from that crazy night in Vegas,” the account holder said. Over Hex Wines seemed to be sure about the planned tour “Yay its @ladygaga 2014 Born This Way Ball, CPT Feb 1,2 JNB Feb 7”. “The announcement of lady gaga’s concert? *going crazy already!*” wrote Kagiso Kuypers.
Fans took to Big Concert’s Facebook page as well to comment on the possible announcement. “I’m betting it’s Lady Gaga. The Big Concert pics look very similar to the Born this Way tour poster,” wrote Lauren Claire Granger. Georgette Cfc Peristeris wrote “Really hope its lady gaga!!!!!!!!!:D”, while Janine Van Niekerk said “I’m guessing it is LADY GAGA …..”
South African radio station 5FM confirmed on Monday morning that Lady Gaga will indeed be playing in South African in November this year. Tickets for the concerts in Johannesburg and Cape Town will go on sale soon and prices range from R515-R615 for seated levels, and R715 for standing tickets through Computicket.
