8ta has recently launched a self-service iPad app that will assist Prepaid and Contract customers in managing all their 8ta data needs, even when the customer has no airtime or data bundles. The app can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store onto an iPad.

With this app, the customer is able to manage their airtime and data bundle balances, redeem airtime vouchers, top-up online as well as purchase data bundles anywhere and anytime.

Amith Maharaj, Telkom Mobile Senior Managing Executive, said that this app is a great tool that will make customers’ lives easier as the need for data in South Africa increases. He elaborated, “We also intend to launch similar apps for other platforms, such as Android, in the near future.”

The launch of the 8ta Data app followed the introduction of a range of data plans, for the latest iPad, that allow customers to connect to its fast 3G network. Maharaj noted that the application fits well with iPads as 8ta was selected by Apple in early 2011 to provide dedicated prepaid iPad data plans.

“Bill shock is a real problem for data users and it is our intention to improve functionality on our apps and portals to avoid this problem”, said Maharaj.
