Xbox cloud service goes live

Microsoft's Xbox360 Elite

Console maker Microsoft has launched its cloud service for Xbox Live.

Although now only available for a handful of Xbox Live Arcade games, the functionality will allow gamers to save their games in the cloud, as opposed to a memory unit or their Xbox consoles. These saved files can then be accessed from any Xbox console to resume the game.

“The full set of cloud features promised by Microsoft is expected to go live when the next Xbox 360 dashboard update is released. Microsoft announced plans to introduce cloud-based services for Xbox Live at E3 last month,” Game Politics wrote.

As part of the cloud service, Microsoft plans to add functionality that will allow gamers to save their Xbox gamertags in the cloud – allowing them to play on any console, no matter where they are. It’s an easier way and completely eliminates the dreaded task of recovering a gamertag for every new console.
