Nintendo successfully launched their glasses-free 3D handheld gaming console a while back, and while the technology used isn’t new, Tomita Technologies saw it fit to sue Nintendo for allegedly infringing on a patent filed in 2003 and issued in 2008.
Media sources say that there are some similarities between Patent 7417664 and the Nintendo 3DS, as the patent is described as “Stereoscopic image picking up and display system based upon optical axes cross-point information”.
“Nintendo America’s infringement of the ‘664 patent has been, and continues to be, wilful,” Tomita Technologies said in their complaint.
In terms of settlement, Tomita hasn’t decided what course of action to take, simply saying that the suit will be brought for an “amount not yet determined.”
