Microsoft is continuing its efforts to bolster its presence in the Middle East and North Africa region, announcing on this week that it had ended a series of high profile “Open Door” events.

The events, aimed at creating local information technology awareness and increase the ability of professionals to learn from industry leaders, were held in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Pakistan and Tunisia.

In Cairo, Tarek Naguib, a recent university graduate searching for a job, said he found the events “extremely useful,” adding that they have given him a new sense of how to search for and apply for positions.

“Microsoft, for all the negative press it receives, has always been a major supporter here in Egypt and elsewhere in the region and this only helps us young people understand what is needed,” he added.

The events brought together over 9,000 local customers, partners, IT professionals and developers from both the public and private sectors, showcasing the latest developments in information and communications technology (ICT), Microsoft said in a press release.

“Participating with Microsoft in the event emphasizes our joint vision on communication and mobility, delivering solutions that allow people to access information anytime and anywhere across many devices,” said Thomas Rizkallah, Head of B2B at Nokia Middle East and Africa, in comments published by the AMEinfo.com.

“The World is becoming more mobile, communication is not what it used to be, people need to connect while on the move whether they are traveling, at home and on the beach. In the age of E-commerce, Email, growing internet usage and social networking, it is crucial for an organization to get on board the mobile highway and in this event we are demonstrating to many customers how leading Microsoft Solutions operate seamlessly on Nokia phones giving optimal communication solutions,” he added.
