Think iT completes R40 million upgrade for BAE Systems

Think iT Solutions announced today the finalization of technology upgrade for BAE Systems’ global defense, security and aerospace division in South Africa, valued at R40 million.

“It’s a complete upgrade, entailing the replacement and setting-up of BAE Systems’ LAN, WAN, data centre, software stack, client computing and disaster recovery infrastructure across its three South African business units”, explains Louis Botha, CTO of Think iT.

The upgrade was expected to take place in order for BAE System’s business units worldwide to cope with shared information, best operational practices and higher operational efficiency. Think iT was the right choice to meet the skills and resources demanded for a successful implementation, according to Abri du Plessis, BAE Systems’ Group IT Manager.

Think iT upgraded the network architecture to a complete Cisco Unified network, capable of intercontinental digital meetings through Cisco TelePresence solution, Sun Microsystems servers, EMC storage solutions and Microsoft’s Hyper-V and System Center Suite virtualization and management technology.

The new system allows multi-operating servers systems runs, high-end disaster recovery solution, storage virtualization to make better use of storage resources and desktop virtualization to manage and expose application to more than 600 end-users in South Africa.
