HP took No.2 revenue position this quarter from Sun Microsystems, as more customers are migrating from Solaris to HP-UX, according to third quarter results for 2009, as released by IDC.
Worldwide, HP stands out with 36,5% market share in total server units shipped. 99,3% of all servers shipped are combined UNIX®-Windows®-Linux units, which account for 84,7% of all server revenue.
Despite a declining market in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, acknowledge by technology providers, HP reported an increase of 2.6 percentage points share yearly in total unit shipments in the region and a total server unit shipment covering of 40,9%. Revenue share soared at 33,2%, twice the unit volume of the following competitor.
Furthermore, HP leadership in x86 server HP ProLiant revenue for the third quarter reached 50,3%, outrunning the next three competitors combined. HP BladeSystem has maintain its position as a leader in blade server market, with 47.7 percent and 50.7 percent share respectively.
