LG International launches the SA leg of the LG Mobile World Cup today. A first for South Africa, the competition is aimed at finding the fastest texter – a person who can type text messages on their mobile phone the fastest. Flex your fingers and get ready to text!
“The LG Mobile World cup is a fun and exciting annual event aimed to create a complete mobile technology experience while participating in the texting competition. The competition is open to everyone,” says Dr Michelle Potgieter, Marketing Director, LG Electronics South Africa.
The competition is an annual contest which takes on an international level. The finalists from the various countries then compete against each other to prove their mobile texting skills based on speed and accuracy. The Grand prize is to ultimately be called the LG Mobile World Cup International Champion.
The first LG mobile world cup took place in Korea, where a total of 371, 716 participated via the website and events at kiosks and sports stadium activations. In Brazil (2008), a total of 200 contestants were selected for the Brazil National Championship. This year the world cup has expanded to eleven (11) other countries, including Russia, Indonesia, Mexico, Spain andSouth Africa.
“The competition will draw attention to texting as a popular, quick and easy communication tool, while increasing excitement and familiarity for LG brand and the innovative handsets currently offered in the market by the company,” says Potgieter.
“A total of two hundred (200) finalists from the regional events to be hosted throughout South Africa will compete at the National Championship, to be held at The Piazza, Montecasino, Fourways Johannesburg on the 24th of October this year. Participants stand a chance to win prizes up to R80,000 and the overall winners of both the QWERTY and Numeric category will get to participate at the World Championships to be hosted in New York later this year,” concludes Potgieter.
The LG regional championships will be visiting Sandton City, Menlyn Park Shopping Centre, Canal Walk Shopping Centre and the UJ and Tuks campuses during September and October. You can register on the website, as a participant.
