SA regulator reschedules date for radio applications

icasa.jpgTHE Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has clarified and amended the Invitation To Apply (ITA) for regional commercial radio stations.
“ICASA would like to draw the attention of stakeholders and potential applicants to amendments made to the Invitation To Apply (ITA) for the commercial radio stations that was published on 27 March 2009. The Authority has published a notice in Government Gazette Number: 32438,”
said the organisation’s Sekgoela Sekgoela.
Among issues he said ICASA sought to clarify are the recall of certain frequencies that were mentioned in the ITA and were earmarked for commercial sound broadcasting in Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban.
The new closing date for submission of applications has now been changed
to 30 September 2009 instead of 31 September 2009.

“The decision to licence new commercial radio stations for the three markets of Cape Town, Gauteng and Durban emanates from a Position Paper published in 2004,” Sekgoela said.
He said the copy of the amendment to the ITA can be accessed from the ICASA website.
