DOC extends broadcasting discussion

sabc.jpgJohannesburg (IT News Africa) —SOUTH Africa’s Department of Communications has issued a notice in the Government Gazette, extending the deadline for Public Submissions in respect of the Public Service Broadcasting Discussion document.

The deadline for public submission has been extended to August 31.

“The Department of Communications once again invites all interested stakeholders and the general public to take the opportunity to make submissions on the Public Service Broadcasting Discussion Document published in the Government Gazette on the 20th July 2009. This consultation process serves to inform the policy process that seeks to amend the Broadcasting Act of 1999, as announced by the Minister of Communications, General (Ret) Siphiwe Nyanda during his Budget Vote Speech
on 23rd June 2009 in Parliament,” the Department said in a statement.

It said the Gazette is obtainable from its website www.doc.gov.za and /or at its Pretoria offices.

The intention of the Department is to amend the Broadcasting Act as in terms of the section 3(1) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2005 (Act No 36 of 2005). –
