Lagos ( IT News Africa)-HEWLETT Packard has partnered with the United Nations in a move aimed at empowering graduates in the information and communications technology sector.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and HP unveiled the Graduate Entrepreneurship Training through Information Technology (GET-IT). UNIDO official Francis Ukoh, said the move will boost the ICT sector in the West African country.

“With this training, the youths can develop themselves. The first stage is training the trainers who will subsequently train other people. These trainers would be scored and certified at the end and they must pass to qualify”, he added.

UNIDO had established over 100 centres in Africa and the Middle East. About 1 000 people have benefited from the programme.

HP official Chukuemeka Chukwuka told media, “HP’s plan is to ensure that anyone could walk into places like Entrepreneurship Development Center (EDC) and get empowered. As part of our social responsibility, we are willing to help in this regard. We are willing to encourage anyone that has the hunger and thirst to learn. We are empowering our youths by giving them the information they need”, he said

The company has given 22 laptops for the project.
