Kenya’s Orange Mobile hits 1 million subscriber mark

t_kenya.jpgKenyan mobile network operator Orange Mobile, a subsidiary of Telkom Kenya, has within eight months of its launch managed to attract one million subscribers.

Says Dominique Saint-Jean, Telkom Kenya’s CEO in a statement: “The success we are celebrating today is not accidental. It has been hard won, thanks to the unceasing commitment and incredible energy of our employees.”

Orange Mobile launched as part of Telkom Kenya’s new commercial brand Orange in September 2008. To date, the company has invested over KES10 billion on infrastructure and maintenance.

Another major milestone for Telkom Kenya is the recently launched Orange Business Services, a converged service supporting organizations in their fixed line, mobile, data and information technology requirements. This service is currently the only one of its kind in Kenya, and has established Telkom Kenya as the first and only integrated operator in Kenya.

Orange Mobile competes with Zain and Safaricom, the two largest mobile network operators in Kenya.
