Workers in the South African telecommunications sector have expressed dissatisfaction with Telkom’s restructuring programme.
The workers, represented by the Communication Workers Union (CWU), said that they were concerned with the ‘self appointment’ of Reuben September as chief executive officer and the implementation of the new corporate structure.
Says CWU general secretary Gallant Roberts: “CWU has learned with disgust that Telkom has announced to its employees the implementation of a corporate structure which we were made to understand through the Minister’s office, was subject to investigation. The implementation of this structure is by default a “self appointment” of the current Telkom CEO, as the company’s Group CEO,”
“We have also learned about some concerning appointments of persons in senior positions in the so called ‘New Telkom SA structure’.”
Roberts said it would take decisive action to reverse the Telkom corporate restructuring.
“Communication Workers Union is opposed to this structure and therefore rejects it with all the contempt it deserve. CWU will take whatever action deemed appropriate to halt and eradicate the resurfacing of this “Ox-Wagon” mentality within Telkom,” Roberts said.
