Nokia Siemens Networks invests ZAR1 million in social upliftment programme

Telecoms infrastructure company Nokia Siemens Networks has donated one R1 million into a social educational development programme in South Africa.

The objective of the Dinaledi Schools adoption programme, initiated by government, is to promote mathematics, science and technology education in underprivileged schools across South Africa.

Last year, Nokia Siemens Networks committed itself to assisting two schools, Gatang Comprehensive School in Mamelodi near Pretoria, and Ndzundza Mabhoko High School in Moloto, Mpumalanga, The as part of the project.

Says Linda Khumalo, Nokia Siemens Networks Head of Southern Africa sub-region: “Having realized the urgent need to improve learning standards in schools across South Africa, Nokia Siemens Networks saw this is a great opportunity to support the Government in bringing the much needed development in education. In my opinion, there are a few things as rewarding as being able to make a meaningful contribution to those around us.”

Nokia Siemens Networks has split the total budget of R1 million to 70 percent dedicated towards learning and training for both learners and teachers, and the remaining 30 percent for rehabilitating infrastructure at both learning institutions.
