VODACOM, South Africa’s leading mobile network provider, on Wednesday (today) offered its customers the opportunity to view a live streaming broadcast of Finance Minister Trevor Manuel’s 2009 Budget speech from parliament free of charge-a first for South Africa.
The speech was scheduled from 2:00pm until 3:30pm.
To access the broadcast customers, with 3G cellphones, can SMS “TV” to 31116 for free. They would then receive a link, which will guide them directly to the TV and Video page on Vodafone live! after which customers can select the Budget Speech broadcast ‘channel’ to start watching.
Alternatively customers can access the speech on the Vodafone live! WAP site or push the Vodafone live! button on their 3G cellphone which options will navigate them to the TV and Video page on Vodafone live! from where they can select the Budget Speech broadcast.
“Vodacom customers who want to follow the developments of the Budget speech can do so by accessing Vodacom’s Mobile TV service on their 3G Vodafone live! cellphones at 4:30pm to watch a live interview on Summit with Finance Minister Trevor Manuel. This interview will be available as part of Vodacom’s Mobile TV service; a subscription-based service, which is billable at the applicable tariff,” said Vosacom spokesperson Dot Field.
Vodacom’s Mobile TV service is available to Vodacom Contract, Top Up and Prepaid customers.
