Nokia data gathering centre to tackle disease outbreak

Nokia, said its recently-introduced Nokia Data Gathering service would monitor outbreaks of HIV/AIDS and malaria in Africa.
The service is a software application that allows health workers to quickly and easily input data via their mobile phones. The data is then sent back directly to the organization’s database system and analyzed.
“The new service from Nokia is targeting significant improvements to the delivery of health services in remote and rural parts of the world. The Nokia Data Gathering service will help health organizations monitor and fight outbreaks of malaria, HIV AIDS, dengue and other diseases,” said Nokia in a statement with Siemens.
Nokia said its Data Gathering service was part of an ongoing strategy of developing and sharing innovative mobile technologies that benefit society.
“We are working on a series of projects that harness the power of mobile technologies to address social issues. These solutions can often be implemented promptly and at low cost – crucial factors for NGOs when dealing with urgent problems like disease or natural disasters,” Gregory Elphinston, Nokia’s director of Community Involvement, said.
