Hoax emails concern ANC

AHEAD of election time, the ruling African National Congress (ANC) has became the latest victim of hoax email messages.

The ANC has raised concern and distanced itself from the billboard photo displayed in the emails, which it said had been digitally altered with a crude and offensive message.

“The African National Congress distances itself in no uncertain terms from a photo being circulated by email of an ANC billboard that has been digitally altered with a crude and offensive message,” said ANC spokeswoman Jessie Duarte.

The contents of the message could not be ascertained.

Duarte added, “This message, which encourages political intolerance and threatens violence against women, is deeply offensive to all South Africans.” Abuse against women is rife in South Africa, which holds its general elections later this year. Duarte said ANC, contrary to the emails, remained committed to stopping gender-based violence.

The ANC has consistently opposed gender-based violence and all other forms of abuse. It supports the democratic right of all people to freely vote for a party of their choice. The ANC will not be deterred from campaigning by all acceptable democratic means to promote its plan to improve the lives of all South Africans,” she said –ITNewsAfrica.
