Vodacom_logo.jpgTHE visually impaired in South Africa received a major boost this weekend from mobile network services provider Vodacom.

Through its sponsorship of leading Premiership clubs Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates and Bloemfontein Celtic the company donated R90 000 to these disadvantaged members of the community.

Per each goal scored by the three teams over the weekend, Vodacom donated R10 000.

The two teams cruised to victory much to the benefit of the visually impaired as they scored four goals each in the league matches.

Chiefs bounced back to winning ways as they crushed Bidvest Wits 4-1 at Bidvest Stadium while Pirates cruised to a 4-2 win over Thanda Royal Zulu in an entertaining match at the refurbished Orlando Stadium.

Celtic drew one-all against Lamontville Golden Arrows.

The Vodacom campaign to restore disadvantaged members of the community’s eyesight campaign kicked off in the Vodacom Challenge in July, with Vodacom donating R90 000.

The concept was taken to the next level during the ongoing PSL’s Absa Premiership season, as the Vodacom- sponsored PSL clubs in the form of Pirates, Chiefs and Celtic raise funds for the beneficiaries when they score.

The company aims to raise R4-million for that cause.

Mthobi Tyamzashe, chairman of the Vodacom Foundation, said, “With these cause-related campaigns, we have raised awareness of the work the projects are doing to assist communities and people on the one hand, and of Vodacom’s commitment to become a caring corporate citizen on the other.”
