Nokia unveils seven new mobile handsets for emerging markets

logo_nokia_115_40_1.gifNokia yesterday introduced 7 new handsets focused for emerging markets including India which come at price range of 25 to 90 euro.

“Designed specifically for the emerging markets, Nokia’s new handsets and tools will help overcome information constraints and provide services to mobile users. We plan to launch the ‘Nokia Life Tools’ services in mid-2009 with the Nokia 2300 series handsets as the lead devices,” said Nokia’s Executive Vice President (Devices) Robert Andersson.

The company also took the opportunity to elaborate on its upcoming new range of services namely ‘Nokia Life Tools’ by mid-2009 for which Nokia 2300 will serve as lead device. The service will follow a subscription-based model with focus on e-mail, agriculture and education said Nokia. Nokia claims it would help overcome information constraints and provide farmers and students with timely and relevant information. “We will launch the pilot project in Maharashtra by the year-end. The service will be available in Marathi, Hindi and English,” added Andersson.

Nokia”s India Vice-President and Managing Director D. Sivakumar said that its much touted Ovi range of services will be introduced by this year-end.
