Kenyans going for smartphones

Kenyans are now going for modern mobile phone handsets as they seek to keep up with changing technology in the communication world.

Walking around the streets of Nairobi with state-of-the-art cellphones is now the in-thing for most well-off Kenyans.

What does it mean to have the state-of-the-art mobile handset?

In Kenya, this means being able to have links to the internet, radio, video as well as in-built cameras to enable the user to keep in touch with latest trends in communication.

“I told myself that I would never fall in love with a man who owns a cheap handset. I’m sorry if some people might be offended by this, but this is a personal choice considering the modern world we are living in today.

“We are living in the 21st century and men of class should have such gadgets if they are to win the hearts of beautiful, educated and loving women. Whenever we go for a vacation or holiday in Mombasa we should just pick-up our cellphones and that would cover our long stay in terms of taking photos from various resort areas, including videos, listening to music, watching video games as well as accessing our emails from the bush.

“We can read website publications as well as access television channels of our choices while outdoors,” said Evelyn Waweru, a university student.

Her boyfriend Shadreck Otieno concurred, saying the latest technology, particularly cellphone handsets manufactured by Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and LG, were proving to be a hit with the working class in Kenya.

“A successful man in Nairobi or Mombasa should be seen driving around or at least walking around with one such a gadget to prove that he is indeed a gentleman. You do not need to carry a camera, you do not need to have a laptop in your bag nor travel with a radio in order to listen to your favourite station, but just go for a quality and modern state-of-the-art cellphone,” said Otieno.

He added: “Life becomes more enjoyable and easier that way. Even if you do not know how to propose love to a woman, once you have such a state-of-the-art gadget, your weaknesses and cowardice in approaching women will not show.”

Most of these gadgets cost as much as Sh10 000-to-Sh15 000, but most young men and young women are happy to spend that big.

As competition for technology advancement catches up with the Kenyans, major mobile phone manufacturers are also reaping the benefits.

The manufactures are also capitalising on the craze to produce eye-catching adverts to boost their sales and subscriptions
