IT Roadshows across the African Continent

INFORMATION and technology (IT) road shows will spread to Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa next month, as the IT advancement drive gathers momentum.

Already, the road shows have been held in one African country – Morocco – and in the Middle East, covering Iran and Yemen.

Among other critical issues being discussed during the road shows is IT investment and utilisation of new technologies adopted in recent years.

Dubbed the International Data Corporation (IDC) and supported by many African governments hoping to change their own people’s lives, the road shows will resume in the Nigerian capital Abuja before being taken to Johannesburg, South Africa and Nairobi, Kenya, to help boost the enthusiasm of technological advancement.

The Middle East and Africa (MEA) on IT road shows will also see presentations from various universities specialising in science and technology, information technology and data capturing.

“This is a key area that Africa should invest in to boost its people’s standards of living. Africa is poor not simply because there are no resources, but it is because Africa is not making use of science and technology that would help improve people’s lives,” said Masheck Nosiri, head of science and technology in Abuja.

IDC vice president, Jyoti Lalchandaniu, said his organisation strongly believed that that technology innovations and architectures in both Africa and the Middle East would drive big changes in government businesses as well as IT investment that has been drastically lacking in these parts of the world.
