Frederic Lestringant, HP’s general manager for personal system group, says the company and many Personal Computer vendors have not been able to provide for this market and the increase of Internet penetration provides an opportunity for the multimedia products.

The market is growing and, he says, this is pushing the vendors to develop products that can cater for this segment. “The market is now big enough to justify such kind of investments,” said Mr Lestringant.

And to penetrate this market, HP has launched into the market multimedia laptops, under the Pavilion and the Compaq brands.

It is targeting mass market with these products that comes with new features that enables a user to perform personal computing functions while at the same time be able to use the products as television, watch movies or make phones calls through the Internet Protocol.
