Brightpoint has announced that its new subsidiary, Brightpoint Africa, has entered into a distribution agreement with Samsung Electronics South, a telecom systems and mobile phones provider.
The agreement calls on Brightpoint Africa to become a distributor of Samsung mobile phones and mobile phone accessories in the Republic of South Africa.
Brightpoint Africa started its operations in August 2007. Last year, Africa Telecom News published a report, “African Mobile Factbook,” which said that Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt are the fastest growing markets for mobile phones.
“Africa has become the fastest growing mobile market in the world with mobile penetration in the region ranging from 100 percent to 30 percent,” stated the report.
With this agreement, Samsung expects to make inroads into this rapidly growing African market. Samsung is a provider of semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies.
Recently, the company introduced a full touch 8-megapixel cameral phone Samsung Pixon. This phone features a 13.8mm slim design. According to the company, not only does the outside look just like an actual camera, the Samsung Pixon also takes pictures like one with its x16 digital zoom, auto-focus, fast-shutter, face detection and geo-tagging.
The company is a distributor of wireless devices and in providing customized logistic services to the wireless industry. Brightpoint reportedly provides distribution and customized services to over 25,000 B2B customers worldwide.
In 2007, Brightpoint handled approximately 83 million wireless devices globally. The company’s services include distribution, channel development, fulfilment, product customization, e-Business solutions, and other outsourced services that integrate seamlessly with its customers.
Earlier this year, Brightpoint entered into global distribution with a Research In Motion (RIM) agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, Brightpoint is distributing RIM products to various territories globally that reportedly include North America, Latin America, Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Asia Pacific.
