The much talked about Google phone, is expected to be on the market in the UK by Christmas time.
Mobile UK reported Tuesday that the phone with highly anticipated Android software could be launched in the UK with T-Mobile. T-Mobile is expected to announce the new HTC handset in a few weeks. The release date could be as soon as November.
According to the report the ‘dream’ phone, as it is being billed, will integrate new mobile software, Android – Google’s mobile browser, announced in November last year. It is expected to be big on Google’s mail, search and mapping facilities, as well as having a YouTube application – also owned by Google.
Many handset analysts have tipped Google to pose a serious threat to Apple, and even senior Nokia executives have acknowledged Google as a major potential rival.
The Android platform is a fully integrated mobile ‘software stack’ that consists of an operating system, middleware, a user-friendly interface and applications.
Amongst others T-Mobile collaborated with Google on the development of the Android platform through the Open Handset Alliance.
Reports from USA where the company is based said the new phone is an important step in Google’s plans to expand the company’s presence beyond the personal computer and into the mobile universe. Google executives have been vocal about how the mobile Web is key to the company’s plans for growth, as well as expanding the market for its products to a global audience.
