Ongoing popular music reality TV show, Zain/MTV Advance Warning will take a new, exciting turn this weekend as the programme promises viewers an amazing television experience, profiling the life, times and rhymes of two upcoming Nigerian Hip Hop stars, Kel and Terry G.
According to the organizers of the show, Zain Nigeria and MTV, the fifth episode of the high profile musical programme will feature biographies and lifestyles of the participating artistes’ as well as capture the fascinating and hilarious musical moments of the Hip hop duo.

Zain Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, Norman Moyo, said the presence of emerging stars like Kel and Terry G in the Zain/MTV Advance Warning contest is an indication of the vast talent pool in the country, adding that the young adults oriented music programme is designed to open vista of opportunity for Nigeria rising music stars to become superstars.
He said the mobile company has to provide the aspiring stars the needed ladder to stardom, urging the contestants and their fans to take advantage of the opportunity provided by Zain and MTV.
Already, fans of Satellite Town’s rap act, Kel believes that the 22 year old Capital Hill Records signing has what it takes to rock the microphone, suggesting that she is capable of producing the right lyrical content, rhythmic punch-lines, attitude and finesse to make life difficult for her co-contestant, Terry G.
Kel will release her debut album later in the year. Industry sources claim that the expected musical work will feature collaborations with several African acts such as Durela, Illbliss, Nyore and Jabba from South African hip-hop group, Hip-hop Pantsula (HHP). The album will also feature songs produced by Dr. Frabs, Knighthouse, J. Martins and Tha Suspect.
In an on-line interview, Kel hinted that the first single of her expected compilation is Waa wa alright!, adding that the song was produced by Tha Suspect (another Capital Hill artiste) and features verses from Skin, an upcoming hip hop artiste.
Interestingly, some Nigerian music critics have tipped Terry G as a strong force to reckon with, hinting that the R’n’B singer has what it takes to emerge winner of Zain/MTV Advance Warning. The winning prize this year is a whooping N5 million, an opportunity for the winner to get his music video produced by a top international music video director and guaranteed airplay by MTV Base.
Aside performances, Terry G has produced banging beats for several music acts. His first step towards production limelight was in 2006 when he featured and produced Shake Dat for Nigeria’s Rythm 93.7’s music presenter, Kemistry. Terry G is signed to Bluemoon Entertainment.
A total of 26 artistes will feature on the Zain/MTV Advance Warning show. So far, the entertainment programme has featured four pairs of Nigerian artistes namely: Durella vs O.D; W4 vs G. I Joe, Terry Da Rapman vs Soty and Pype vs Waje. Other artistes yet to take their turns include GT the Guitarman, M.I., SLK, Soty, Blaise, Big Weez, Amaka, Zdon, Kani, Kaha, Frank D’Nero, D La La, Kenzos, Nikki Laoye, F. Shaw, Barbara and Cyrus The Virus.
Zain/MTV Advance Warning airs every Sunday between 7.30 and 8.00pm on MTV Base Channel (DStv Channel 322) and between 6.00 and 6.30pm on Nigeria terrestrial TV Stations: Silverbird Television (STV) and African Independent Television (AIT).
Music lovers can participate in the show by voting for their favourite artistes every week via SMS. To vote, viewers need to send SMS containing their choice artiste to 33970.
