Must Read

The department of Communications’ digital migration process plan on improving service delivery and further e-governance.
Director General said the digital migration process and the introduction of the Set-Top-Boxes (STB) will improve the capacity of government to deliver its service to people.
BDM is the process of converting television broadcasting signals from analogue to digital technology.
The migration will allow a more sufficient use of radio frequency spectrum, better quality pictures and sound.
To be able to receive digital signal on analogue TV sets, you will need purchase STB’s that convert the digital signal into analogue.
Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, Minister of communications said that the advantages of the STB far outweigh the cost of the technology in terms of access to more channels.
All STB’s will be built to certain standard set out by the South Africa Bureau of Standards, currently there is six companies manufacturing them.
Minister of Trade and Industry, Mandisi Mpahlwa said the progress was made by implementing the infrastructure for the BDM. The main objective of the cable is to ensure the sufficient supply of broadband.
Mpahlwa added that the work will inform policy directives around the issue of balancing investment into South Africa and African networks infrastructure and ensuring that national security concerns are catered for.
