During a protest yesterday over unpaid wages, President of the Senior Staff Association of Communication, Transport and Corporations (SSACTAC), Suleimaan Awalloo, threatened to shut down the SAT-3 network, which provides backbone for most of the other telecommunication companies and some strategic outfits like the NNPC reports This Day.
Among their grievances are non-remittance of their pension, taxes and National Housing Fund deductions to the appropriate agencies, as well as non-payment of their salaries ranging from one month for the core staff, to 10 months for security personnel.”Every month, we struggle to get paid. This year, we were owed four months before an agreement was reached with management. Statutory deductions to Pension Fund, taxes and National Housing Fund should be remitted regularly. They have not been remitted in the last two years. They agreed to remit them by June, but now, nothing has been done.”Vowing not to go back to work until all issues are addressed, Awalloo lamented that they could not continue to accept lame explanations at a time when their children should be returning to school wthout their school fees.
