Microsoft yesterday announced its latest release, the SQL Server 2008 which includes a number of new features such as policy-based management, auditing, large scale warehousing, geospatial data and advanced reporting and analysis services.
The announcement was made yesterday in Durban at the end of TechEd South Africa 2008, by Microsoft’s business group executive, Manoj Bhoola.
Subscribers of Microsoft Developer Network and TechNet can download SQL Server 2008 immediately…other users will only be able to download it within the next few days. SQL Server 2008 meets Microsoft’s target of upgrading the server every three years.
According to Ted Kummert, corporate vice president of the data and storage platform division at Microsoft, SQL Server 2008 is the only database that includes comprehensive, tightly integrated functionality for data management and advanced business intelligence. Other features include easy loading of Oracle data, integration with Office 2007 reporting.
“By offering a complete solution, we save customers time and money and allow them to focus on deriving the most value from their data assets,” said Ted.
