Kenya: Kibaki calls for lower calling charges

Must Read

kibaki.jpgAt the official launch of Zain (formerly Celtel) Kenya’s President Mwai Kibaki voiced his stand on the reduction of calling charges.
Kibaki said that the government has made cheaper technology available, which can help reduce costs for telecommunication companies. He said that the government has zero-rated duty on all computers and computer accessories, including telecommunication equipment. He added that this will encourage growth in the ICT sector.
Kenyans now can expect to benefit from cheaper calling rates and an improved service. Kibaki also challenged telecommunication companies to expand their services to rural areas, where the majority of the people live without service.
Kibaki went on and highlighted the need for continues innovation in connecting networks across Africa and the Middle East, saying that it would reduce call costs for business travelers, businesses and families operating in Africa and the Middle East
