Samsung has officially launched the worlds first 5G compatible tablet – its Galaxy S6 Tab. In an official post, the tech giant says, “The Galaxy Tab S6 5G features 5G mobile communications, a thin bezel 10.5-inch super-amorphous display, AKG’s sound technology, and quad speakers with Dolby Atmos, enabling massive streaming games, real-time 4K broadcast streaming, and AR content”.

According to My Broadband, the 5G device “is exactly the same as the original Tab S6 except for its ability to support the next generation of mobile communications technology”.

Here’s a closer look at the Galaxy S6 5G:

  • Dimensions – 244.5 x 159.5 x 5.7mm
  • OS – Android 9.0
  • Display – 10.5-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED
  • Processor – Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855
  • RAM – 6GB
  • Storage – 128GB
  • Front Camera – 8MP
  • Rear Camera – 13MP + 5MP
  • Connectivity – 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0
  • Network – 5G
  • Ports – USB Type-C
  • Battery – 7,040mAh
  • Price – N/A

According to the post, the device is currently only available in Korea with no word yet on a worldwide release.

Samsung hopes that its 5G devices will help improve the companies earnings as worldwide adoption increases. The Verge reports that the company’s “revenue was more or less flat year-on-year — up 1 per cent to 59.9 trillion won ($50.7 billion) — while operating profit slid 34 per cent to 7.1 trillion won ($6 billion)”. However, Samsung cautions that the actual rate of 5G expansion remains to be seen.
