On 5 September 2019, Vodacom announced that it will be introducing an esports hub at Vodacom World, which is the telecommunication company’s Flagship Digital Mall situated in Midrand, Johannesburg.
Vodacom has said that the esports hub will host a number of gaming events and experiences that will provide gamers with the opportunity to experience Vodacom’s network speeds and capabilities. The esports hub is another step in Vocam’s plan to establish itself as the “Gamers Network of Choice.”
“We are excited to be introducing an esport hub at our digitally-led mall, Vodacom World. We believe there are great synergies between the gaming and esport scene and Vodacom in that the one glue that connects gamers with their games is the network capability, connectivity and speeds. We have no doubt that gamers who visit the mall during September will experience world-class gaming through SA’s leading network while competing for NAG LAN tickets that will give them access to rAge – tickets that can only be won at Vodacom World,” said Samantha Botha, Managing Executive: Retail Operations at Vodacom.
The first competition that will be hosted at the new esports hub will take place from 9 September to 23 September 2019 and will be hosted by Mettlestate, a local esports tournament organizer. During this period, gamers will be able to partake in one of three games: F1 2019, Fortnite (Mobile) and Dota Underlords (Mobile). Leader-boards will be present and gamers will be able to receive prizes. Both casual and competitive gamers can win Vodacom hampers and bundles, as well as a chance to win LAN tickets to the annual NAG LAN at rAge, which will take place from 27 September to 29 September 2019 at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg.
