At the 2019 ‘by innovation only’ event – which took place on Tuesday, 10 September 2019, at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus – Apple introduced its latest generation wearable, the Watch Series 5.
The watch – which aims to focus on user fitness, biometrics and health research – is finally available for pre-order in South Africa through the online retail platform, Takealot.com.
Here’s a quick look at the specs:
Watch Series 5
- Always-on retina display so wearers can always see the time
- 18-hour battery life
- Choice of case in either Aluminium (Silver, Gold, and Space Grey), stainless steel (Gold, Space Black, and Polished), Titanium (Natural and Space Black), or ceramic (White)
- Access to Apple Pay to facilitate instant and secure transactions
- Water resistance up to 50 meters
The Watch Series 5 gives female wearers the ability to easily log information about their menstrual cycle through the Cycle Tracking app. Activity rings tracks progress made by wearers, in the hopes of inspiring people to exercise every day. And the new Noise app alerts wearers when decibels rise to levels that can impact hearing.
“We’ve seen Apple Watch have a meaningful impact on our customers’ lives and we’re excited to deliver even more capabilities with Apple Watch Series 5,” says Apple COO, Jeff Williams.
“The seamless integration of new hardware and software delivers an enhanced experience that makes it even easier to stay active and connected to the people and information users care about.”
The Apple Watch Series 5 is coming in both a GPS and a GPS + cellular model – however, only the GPS version is available for pre-order – to be shipped on Friday, 27 September 2019. The watch is priced between R7 999 and R8 799 depending on colour and casing.
