Vodacom has announced a major partnership with international advocacy organisation Global Citizen. Through this partnership, Vodacom is essentially extending an invitation to its customers to commit towards engaging the social issues that currently affect the continent. The initiative will drive active participation in projects aimed at encouraging South Africans to carry on the legacy of the late Nelson Mandela.

Vodacom will be zero-rating the Global Citizen app and website for Vodacom customers for the duration of the partnership ensuring that every South African Citizen has an opportunity to participate in being an agent for change through digital social actions.

“When the Global Citizen opportunity arose, we could see the alignment in our values and purpose, which are focused on helping ordinary citizens achieve the extraordinary through the power of technology”, said Abey Mokgwatsane, Managing Executive for Brand and Comms at Vodacom.

Mokgwatsane went on to say, “Our approach in making a social impact has seen us work together with civil society, government as well as mobilising our staff volunteers to do what we can to bring meaningful and relevant content, support and training to those who need it most.

We have been in search of ways to engage our customers, who we know are doing what they can to bring about change. This will be a first-of-its-kind initiative for Vodacom, a movement that will see our collective force of 43.1 million subscribers driving change and making a difference in some key areas of delivery in South Africa.”

Global Citizen’s Mandela 100 campaign, which will culminate with the Festival in December, will grant Vodacom the opportunity to enable its customers to support life-changing causes that the mobile network operator has been working hard on, with increased focus on areas around education and gender empowerment.

Through the Global Citizen app, Vodacom customers can pledge their support by participating in the campaign actions as they are announced from 21 August 2018 onwards. Vodacom believes that this platform will tap into the country’s proven ability to jointly work towards addressing society’s social ills. And of course, there is an amazing reward that all changemakers can stand a chance of winning by taking action in their communities.

Vodacom customers can go to: www.globalcitizen.org to install the Global Citizen app and take part.
